- Should you choose to deliver at UPMC or any other facility, please note that PIWH providers will no longer be available to attend your delivery.
- Your delivery provider will be a hospital provider
Are there added costs if I choose not to deliver at Hampden?
- Yes. OB care, delivery, and post-partum care are typically billed to your insurance as a bundled code ad processed as a whole. However, should you choose to deliver elsewhere, and since our providers will not be performing your delivery, you will receive a bill from our office for your routine OB care and post-partum appointment, a bill from the provider that delivered you, as well as a bill for the hospital portion of your delivery.
- Depending on your out-of-pocket expenses with your insurance company, all bills could be subject to patient liability.
May I tour the Hospital?
- Yes!
- A virtual tour is available on the Women and Babies Center website.
- In-person tours are available by emailing [email protected] to schedule.
- Tours will also be available with PIWH Childbirth Education Classes.

-PIWH will continue to provide classes. These will now be held at Hampden. You can find more information under the OB Education tab.
What if my Pediatrician does not go to Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center?
- A pediatrician on staff will examine your baby while you are in the Hospital and after you and your baby are discharged you can schedule with the Pediatrician of your choice.
Will PIWH only be referring patients to Penn State providers?
- As an independent Practice we can refer to any provider we choose. We will continue to refer our patients to whomever will provide the best and appropriate care for the treatment of our patients.
We understand that that change can be unnerving. We feel this move enables us to provide the individualized care you have come to expect from PIWH. As we all worry that healthcare is evolving into a corporate and impersonal business, we take pride in the fact that we are the only private OB/GYN in the entire region. We believe this transition enables us to strengthen our commitment to your care.
Our providers, business staff, and triage nurses are readily available to discuss any questions you may have.
